Mel Wilson, PhD
President, M.J. Wilson Inc
I have been an active sustainability consultant in Calgary for over 25 years, specializing in environmental / sustainability reporting and assurance. Over this time I have led or participated in many different types of projects, but I am mostly known for conducting third-party audits of sustainability reports, sustainability management systems, and regulatory compliance. I have worked with clients from the energy, telecommunications, and agriculture industries as well as all three levels of government.
My career includes 22 years at PwC, one of the world’s largest professional services firms, culminating as Partner and National Leader of the Sustainable Business Solutions practice. While at PwC I led the interdisciplinary teams that conducted the very first dozen independent audits of corporate sustainability reports and greenhouse gas emission reports in Canada. Many of the services we developed together at PwC have since become mainstream sustainability consulting services.
I have a B.Sc in Biology (1988) from University of Prince Edward Island, and a Masters (1992) and a PhD (2003) in Environmental Design from the University of Calgary. I completed my doctoral research on the principles and methodologies for providing independent assurance on corporate sustainability reports.
