Dr. Cen Huang

Dr. Cen Huang has taken on Interim Vice Provost and Associate Vice President (International) since July 2018. Prior being appointed as Executive Director of International Partnerships and Associate Vice-President (International Advancement) in January 2018, Dr. Huang was Executive Director of International Relations and Recruitment and Assistant Vice-President with the University of Alberta International from February 2009 to December 2017. She is also an adjunct professor in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta where she started in 2009. Before joining the University of Alberta, she was the Executive Director of the International Centre at the University of Calgary from 2000 to 2008. During 1996-1999, Dr. Huang worked as a post-doc fellow and program manager at the International Institute for Asian Studies in the Netherlands.
Dr. Huang leads the development of strategic international partnerships and international advancement activities for the university. She recently established an innovative national study abroad program aimed to increase the number of Canadians studying in China: Canada Learning Initiative in China (CLIC). This program has been recognized as a significant achievement in Canada-China academic relations by the national governments of both countries.
Dr. Huang received her Ph.D. in Comparative Education from the University of Calgary in 1995. She holds two Masters’ degrees: Master of Education Philosophy (1989) and Master of University Administration (1990) from the University of Glasgow. She also has a Bachelor of Education Degree from Beijing Normal University. Dr. Huang has taught courses in comparative education, school pedagogy, multicultural education, cross-cultural management, and overseas Chinese studies at universities in China, Canada, Germany, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom.
