Executive Director, Alberta Council for Global Cooperation
Heather McPherson is the Executive Director of the Alberta Council for Global Cooperation (ACGC), a coalition of over 70 voluntary sector organizations located in Alberta, working locally and globally to achieve sustainable human development.
Prior to her work at ACGC, Heather spent over a decades working with Canadian and international educational and community development organizations with partners around the world. Heather has worked in Sub-Saharan Africa with organizations such as United Nations Development Programme, Canada World Youth, and Volunteer Services Overseas (VSO).
Heather has also been involved with Medecins Sans Frontieres, and was an appointed member of the Non-Profit and Voluntary Sector Citizens’ Advisory Committee for the Alberta Provincial Government, within the Culture and Community Services Ministry. In addition, Heather volunteers her time at the Edmonton Humane Society in the canine socialization department.
Heather has a Masters Degree from the University of Alberta in Educational Policy Studies in Cultural, Theoretical and International Studies in Education and her research primarily focused on the importance of incorporating of indigenous knowledges in the achievement of poverty reduction and development priorities.
